OOTD: hello fall

I don’t know about you but for me summer is officially over when august comes to an end and september kicks in. I have never been a summer person and I never will be, I just hate the heat. So the fact that the weather is already getting little colder everyday and I am able to wear tights and combat boots makes me squeak. While everyone else still enjoys last days of the summer and make finds from last chance sales my head is up and towards the new fall collections. I can’t wait to see what this years autumn fashion has to offer.

Dress – Monki | Boots – DinSko | Backpack – Michael Kors | Bomber jacket – Bershka

For me fall fashion is all about comfines and beautiful colors such as mustard, mocha, khaki and black. I love big sweaters, loose dresses, and black tights. The dress I am wearing is perfect example for what I wear during autumn, it’s comfy, loose, oversized and of course black. So basically it screams for fall.  The frill detail that goes around the waist is my favorite part of it, it gives the dress nice shape not making it look too oversized and big for me.

As I already mentioned combat boots and black tights are my thing during fall so no surprise that I matched them with this dress. All black everything once again. But hey I tried to bring little something into the outfit by wearing my new glasses and my beloved Daniel Wellington pieces. At least I tried right?

My favorite skincare products

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have never payed that much attention to skin care, I cleanse my face and moisturize but that’s all basically. My skin in clear, healthy and spot free most of the time so I have never really had the need to discover all the skincare products that are out there (even though I know there is no harm doing that, my skin won’t ‘bloom’ forever).  But I do have products that I really love and can’t go without so I thought it would be nice to share them with you.

All these products are made without harming animals. ❤

Lush – Let the Good Times Roll

Let’s start with my favorite of them all. A face scrub/cleanser from Lush. I love everything about this product. It smells so lovely, sweet and popcorn-ish with a pinch of cinnamon. It’s really gentle and it leaves my skin so soft and smooth. You can use it on your entire body but since I use it on daily basis I apply it only to my face so it lasts for longer.

Herbina – Moisturizing face cream 24h | Origins – Active charcoal mask

It took me really long time to find good face cream that actually moisturizes and leaves my skin as soft as little baby’s butt (and not sticky at all). I feel like I tried half of the face creams out there before I came across Herbina. It’s a Finnish skin care brand that uses only natural ingredients. I don’t think I will ever find better face moisturizer than this one.

As I sad at the beginning of this post my face is most of the time spot free but just like everyone else I have bad face days, weeks and months. At that time I lean on Origins’ Active charcoal mask.  It’s deep cleansing and it dries my oily areas (I tend to have oily t-zone). You can feel it working immediately when you apply it on. I love the after feeling on my skin – soft and fresh. I absolutely love it.

Dermosil – Hand cream walnut

I never see people consisting hand creams in their skin care related posts. Doesn’t hand creams and such things fit perfectly in the box of ‘skin care products’? I don’t know. But  hey hands are important too. Who wants to have dry hands? No one probably. Dermosil’s walnut hand cream is my all time favorite. First of all it smells heavenly and second of all it does miracles for my hands (no joke). It makes my hands soft like little babes butt (yes I did use that description already, no regrets). Also it’s not sticky which is something I can’t stand when applying a cream.

The body shop – Aloe calming foaming wash

Okay first of all I need to say that I am always in for a product that consists aloe. It just can’t be bad. This facial wash is mild and soap-free, best thing about it is the texture which is lovely soft foam. Since I don’t use that ‘heavy’ makeup this is perfect for my face. It cleanses really gently leaving my skin soft, hydrated and well clean.

Also I know I totally overused the word soft as I described these products but they all just make my skin so soft which is why they are my favorites.

So that is all about my current skincare products. Have you tried any of these before? If yes please leave your opinions below. Also if you have any good skincare product recommendations I am wide open for them.

OOTD: Black summer vibes

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

First warm day in Helsinki during this summer and what I wore? All black of course. But hey you can never go wrong with black. It’s simple, elegant, classy and it doesn’t go out of style. And besides, it’s just simply the best color out there (until they make something darker).

I bought this dress in a need of something fancy, Zara (surprise surprise) had other colors of it too but no way would I buy a dress full of color such as green or red! I went for my beloved black. I haven’t worn it much since the purchase. It’s little revealing and I just never have the guts to do so. Now when we finally had proper warm day I got one of those “now or never” moments and pulled it on without hesitation.

The ruffled short sleeves are my favorite part of this dress. I don’t know about you but I just find ruffles romantic. There is something really classic and feminine about them.

Dress – Zara | Bag – Longchamp | Sandals – H&M | Hat – Monki | Watch & Bracelet – Daniel Wellington

There is no rules to style all black outfit but I think adding pinch of color is the key to the nice final touch. My Longchamp backpack was perfect for that since I am backpack all the way kinda girl. Sometimes backpacks are more informal and casual but this one stuck perfectly to the romantic summer look that I was trying to pull off. I also think accessorizes are important part of the all black outfit (or any outfit really) so a watch and fedora hat on and I was good to go.

OOTD: That perfect raincoat

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Here in Finland summer (just like every other season) consists lots of rain and overall bad weather. You won’t survive through festivals, outdoor concerts and such things without something that keeps you from getting wet. And since you can’t bring umbrella anywhere with you nowadays, raincoat is a must have.

My raincoat is too perfect for words. I am so happy that I went for such a bright and happy color as yellow. It brings so much life into my usually so neutral style. I bought it  from a brand called Rukka. Their raincoats are a bit more one the pricy side but they are totally worth the money. I mean the coat has really good quality, I have had mine for over a year now and it’s still in a very good shape.

I think styling a raincoat is just as ‘easy’ as styling a normal jacket. My raincoat is so bright and already statement itself so matching basic black jeans and a white sweater with it felt more than natural. My Daniel Wellington watch and their matching bracelet were perfect little final touch for this rainy day outfit. I was good to rock the bad weather. Hah.

Is raincoat also a must have for you too or is it just me (and probably rest of the finns)?

OOTD: Doubling the denim

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have been really skeptical about this whole denim on denim trend. I honestly didn’t think I could pull it off. When I went to shoot this look I was planning on wearing my yellow raincoat but it just didn’t look good on camera. So I wen’t for something completely different and new (for me). Denim on denim. Even though I am really happy how this outfit turned out I still  don’t know if I ever dare to wear double denim again.

I am obsessed with everything that’s denim. I have way too many denim jackets and I have got quite a few pairs of jeans. The mom jeans that I am wearing are my current go-to bottoms. They are really comfortable and look good with basically anything. The denim jacket is also my current go-to piece, but I always automatically wore it with black jeans. Little did I know how good they would look together.

When it comes to double denim I know it’s a big no no to wear two completely same washed denims. My jeans and jacket does have very similar vibes but I think the washes are still different enough to follow the ‘rules’, even though aren’t the rules made to be broken?

Jacket – Springfield (similar)  //  T-shirt – ginatricot  (only 10€!!)  //  Jeans – Zara

Now let’s talk about other very important part of this outfit. Ginatricot is a store that has lots of t-shirts with amazing prints and statements. When I first walked in there my eyes caught a shirt that said ‘going nuts for coconuts’ – something that would suit me more than well. But right next to that shirt was this amazing t-shirt with a beautiful statement that I knew was very much needed to put out there right now. ‘Make love not walls – exactly, love is what this world needs right now. So without any hesitations I walked out with it and have been wearing it nonstop since.

I am always in for small acts like these, and seems like I am not the only one since this shirt is sold out from every ginatricot store around the world. Hope they stock more so some of you can take it home too!

What are your thoughts about double denim? Yay or nay?

Breakfast pancakes

Lately it has been raining a lot here in Finland, which makes the weather quite depressing. I thought it would be nice to do little throwback to the mid summer, since the sun was still shining back then.

I had a sleepover with my friend and we wanted to do big breakfast with pancakes, croissants, fruits and so on. I have never been big fan of pancakes, but that’s just because I have never succeed with making them. I always end up burning them or breaking them when trying to flip them around. This time we tried a recipe from ruoka.fi, the pancakes were easy to cook  and they ended up being delicious. So I thought I could share it with you.

American pancakes

prep time 40 minutes — cooking time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • One big egg
  • 2 deciliters milk
  • 2 deciliters plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar (golden caster sugar)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of butter for cooking (canola oil etc.)

Method

Break the egg into a large bowl. Mix together milk, flour and baking powder in another bowl, then add the sugars and salt. Mix them with the egg. At last add the butter and stir to a smooth batter then leave it to the fridge for a while.

Heat non-stick frying pan (teflo) and grease the pan lightly with butter. Pour some of the batter into a pan, about one or two table spoons. Remember that the batter will rise a lot. Cook both sides for few minutes, they are ready when they are golden and firm. Before you start to cook next one remember to re-greace the pan.

We ate the pancakes with maple syrup and berries but you can also serve them with yoghurt, butter, fresh fruits or whatever you prefer.
