Do it yourself: christmas wrapping paper

Do it yourself: christmas wrapping paper

I don’t know about you but I have never really loved the whole wrapping gifts part of christmas. I mean, I love buying the presents for my friends and family but when it comes to wrapping them I just suck. I have never had that artistic eye what you need to make the presents pretty. This year I came across this cute diy wrapping paper idea in pinterest and it looked so simple that I had to try it myself. Honestly I am so proud of how it turned out! The whole idea was so easy and festive, I am absolutely in love! And sharing is caring right so here comes the instructions how you can make it too:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

What you need:

  • Plain wrapping paper (I got brown and white but any color you desire works)
  • Acrylic paint or ink (I used green paint mixed with black ink and also some white paint)
  • Potatoes to use as a stamp
  • Gift tags
  • Fabric/curl ribbon
  • A stamp pad with some black ink (not necessary)

Step one: Use a small knife to carve the stamp you desire into the potato. Christmas tree was really easy to make (just believe me as this comes from the person who happens to have zero artistic talent). Just draw a line of three triangles on paper and cut it out then use it as a base for your craving.

Step two: Dip your stamp into the paint and fill the plain wrapping paper with the stamps marks.

Step three: Make sure the paper is dry before wrapping your presents. Decorate them with whatever your heart desires. I used some cute fabric ribbons and small brown gift tags.

And volà, that is how you do cute wrapping paper all by yourself! Hope this inspires someone to give it a try, it was so much fun and even little addicting. I found myself making more and more paper with different stamps haha!

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you have a lovely and festive rest of the week!

Let’s admire my beauty advent calendar

Let’s admire my beauty advent calendar

IMG_0405_2

When I was a kid the most existing thing about christmas was the fact that every morning when you woke up you were allowed to eat a little piece of chocolate that came from your advent calendar. And now even though I am all adult and grown december is not december without a christmas advent calendar. I was planning on buying that good old chocolate calendar but then I came across this beauty and yes my friends, it was time to ditch the chocolate and switch the advent calendar game a little.

And honestly guys this calendar is such a game changer. I have never seen anything as beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. It’s so pretty that I seriously didn’t want to open the doors to ruin the look of it. But um, obviously I got over that hehe.

The calendar is by Finnish skincare brand Lumene. I have always loved their products because a) they have such a good quality b) all the ingrients are from finland and c) as i already said their products are so pleasing for the eye. They have relieved all the products that the calendar includes but I honestly want to be surprised when I open the boxes so all I know is that there is lots of skincare products and some beauty products.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Behind the first door I got a glow boost drops that you are supposed to apply on your clean and fresh face. I have tried them once now, and holy moly the smell is absolutely amazing. Behind the second door I got a beautiful nail polish in the shade On the Beach. It’s such a nice soft pink color.

And that’s all I have opened so far. Please let me know if you would like to see a full review of all the 24 treats once I have tried them. Because I would be more than happy to do it yay.  Thank you for reading, hope you all have had a lovely start of december!

OOTD: Got those street style vibes

OOTD: Got those street style vibes

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

What does street style even mean? A specific style of fashion that is inspired by urban street people or just simply a type of fashion that is personal to you. Who knows. I guess everyone can define it themselves but for me this outfit was screaming street style. Because after all I was wandering around the streets wearing them clothes looking oh so stylish (sarcasm? yes). Haha.

I don’t know why I am so obsessed with red right now but I can’t stop myself from buying new beautiful pieces that have at least a pinch of red in it. Maybe it’s because red is one of the colors during christmas, or maybe I have finally jumped out of my comfort zone which was filled with neutral colors, who knows. The point is: Red all the way and I’m lovin’ it!

Sweater – Zara // Jacket – Zara // Skirt – Zara // Hat – Brixton // Shoes – Adidas

I first thought that I couldn’t match red with anything else than black & white but look at me trying to add the pinch of color with that blue denim skirt. It’s a little bit too big for me but I loved the pearl details of it too much so I just couldn’t leave it to the store. Now since the cold weather is here and I have huge urge to wear oversized sweaters and everything comfy in general it being slightly too big works just fine. I can sneakily hide all the extra fabric underneath it.

And what comes to black & white, I think my black Brixton hat is a perfect match for red. It’s something that you see on the streets a lot these days and no wonder why as it’s simply just so gorgeous. And to have more black on my outfit I added black tights and a leather jacket. And then last but not least the pinch of white that was necessary: my Adidas sneakers. I will stick to them until there is snow on the ground and my feet will freeze.

Let’s talk editing – How I edit my pictures

Every now and then I get comments where people compliment me for the good quality of my pictures, and oh how happy it makes me because as you fellow bloggers know creating content that you are happy with takes a lot of time. When it comes to photographing we all know there are a lot of small things that matter such as lightning and backgrounds. But as much as I want to give the credit for my amazing camera and photographing skills in general most of the time I need to do little editing to make the photos look the way I want them to. Even though I am no professional I am pretty happy with the way my pictures turn out so a little guide to editing won’t harm anyone right?

Oh and before we start here is a link to my older blog post where I shared some tips about crafting beautiful pictures. It gives a good base for taking pictures before actual editing.

I have few so called go-to apps that I always turn to. What app I use depends on how much editing the picture needs, if I am lucky enough I have a picture with perfect lightning and mostly clean background (like the one above). All I have to do is fix composition a little. At the (oh so happy) moments like these I use few tools from picsart:

Perspective: Sometimes the angles and camera distance distort the view so with this tool I can straighten the picture and fix the wrong angles.

Straighten: And then there are times when the picture/the ground/the walls etc are just completely out of control and you need proper straightening.

Crop: I always use this tool, because firstly I want to crop all the unnecessary parts out of the photo and secondly, I want all my pictures to be from same distance when I add them to a blog post.

Clone: Last but not least, my savior. This tool is a little tricky and I honestly don’t know how to explain it properly but let’s just say it can fade away anything that you don’t like to see in your picture. (Do you notice what I edited out from the first picture?)

Then there are times that I have done all the editing above but the picture is still not pleasing my eye, I mean the lightning is just horrible so snapseed is the app I go to.

Brush – dodge and burn: This tool is my lifesaver number two. I just gently brush over the whole picture with my finger to fix the lightning and brightness.

Brush – saturation and temperature: These two tools are perfect to fine tune and fix the color balance. For example if the picture is little too cold and the tones are blue just add more warth and vola.

Selective: This is also a easy way to balance the lightning. Just select the dark point on the picture and desaturate the brightness to as high as needed. It’s also a great tool to lower the brightness if you have too bright spots in your picture.

And then of course there are these pictures with messy backgrounds. Little imperfections don’t bother everyone but I personally prefer my pictures to be as clean as possible. So snapseed is the app for that sort of editing too:

Healing: This tool works like heaven, all you have to do is press the small imperfection you don’t want in your picture and it fades away. Of course it won’t work for big imperfections as the brush you are allowed to use here is quite small. But when you have something ugly and big in your picture that you want gone turn to clone tool that I mentioned earlier.

So that is my little guide to editing, hope it wasn’t too messy and unclear! How do you edit your pictures and what apps do you use? Thanks for reading lovely people!

OOTD: Getting cozy with oversized sweater

OOTD: Getting cozy with oversized sweater

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

To be honest I never thought I would find myself wearing huge oversized sweaters. But yet here I am obsessing over everything big, soft and comfy. And the bigger the better. This sweater I am wearing is from Zara and it’s definition of comfy. It’s so big that it reaches almost my knees which I absolutely love. The wool is soft and warm surprise surprise I know. Perfect for cold autumn days, and even more perfect once winter is here. Also when haven’t I loved beige? Never, indeed. Thank god it seems to go never out of style, not at least this fall as all the stores are filled with the shades of brown. So please let’s take a moment to appreciate the perfect oversized sweater. Thank you.

Sweater – Zara // Trousers – Monki // Backpack – Longchamp // Shoes – Vagabond (similar)

Since I am quite a small person I have been struggling with how to wear this big sweater.    I have seen so many people rocking oversized sweaters but when I tried to do the same with mine, nothing looked good. Then I came across these checked trousers in Monki and BOOM I was in love. Perfect match, almost at least. These trousers have slightly oversized fit which is why they are super nice on. And all I care about during this cold season is confines so yes you will see a lot more of these in the future.

I don’t know where it came from, but I have been wearing thin black socks underneath trousers and I am loving how it looks. I guess it adds nice detail, just like my beloved Daniel Wellington watch. I bet you all have already seen it so many times but it just brings nice class for the look.

Anyway enough with my rambles, please share your thoughts about oversized sweaters! Are you in for the bigger the better like me or nah? Thank you if you stopped by!

SpoOoOOky halloween cupcakes

SpoOoOOky halloween cupcakes

Halloween is knocking on the door and even though we don’t really celebrate it here in Finland I felt like a halloween themed post is a must have. So what would be nicer than share a little recipe of easy halloween cupcakes. Okay yes that was a lie. They are not easy, of well the muffins were piece of cake but the frosting. Just wow my back still hurts. But what wouldn’t I do for you lovely bunch.

And by the way before we start, these are also gluten free yay!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ingredients

Carrot and cocoa cupcakes: (makes about 14 small or seven big cupcakes)

  • 2 carrots
  • 3½ dl gluten free flours (all-purpose-flour works just fine too)
  • ½ dl unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilja sugar
  • 1¼ tsp baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 can (150g) of crème fraiche
  • 1½ dl rapeseed oil

dl = Desilitre tsp = teaspoon

Orange flavored frosting:

  • 75g unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 500g icing sugar
  • 1 can (200g) of orange flavored cream cheese
  • Black, yellow and red food coloring

Method:

1. Grate the carrots. In a small bowl combine flours, cocoa powder, baking powder and vanilla sugar and gently mix using a spoon. In other bowl whisk (gently) the eggs and sugar, just breaking the structure of the eggs. Then add the crème fraiche and rapeseed oil.

2. Mix grated carrots to the egg mixture. Then add the flours etc. using a big spoon to stir and combine the dough. When the batter is smooth divide it to the cupcake liners. Bake in 200 degrees for about 20 minutes.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

3. For the icing whisk (again gently) the softened butter until smooth. Add icing sugar whisking all the time with the lowest power of your electric mixer. When all the icing sugar is added, turn the power up a little and whisk until smooth. At this point the mixture should look like flours.  Then add the cold cream cheese and whisk until the batter is smooth but thick.

4. Separate the frosting into a two bowls. For orange color, mix the red and yellow food coloring together. Be really careful to not add too much red. When you have orange color mix it with one of your two frostings. Mix black food coloring with the other frosting.

5. Put your desired tip to a piping bag (I recommend one with star tip). And now this is where it gets hard. So I would say all’s fair. First spoon the orange frosting into the piping bag. I laid the bag to the table and filled half of it with the frosting so it was ‘easier’ to add the black frosting on top of it. Make sure the tip is filled with half of the each frostings too. When you are done with both of the frostings one side of the piping bag should be filled with orange frosting and the other side with black. If you completed, congratulations. If this all sounds too hard you can just simply pipe the cupcakes with orange and black frostings separately.

Good luck with decorating, hope you don’t hurt your bag like I did hehe.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So that’s my little recipe for halloween. Hope it made you crave for some delicious cupcakes and maybe even want you make these. I mean they really do please the aesthetic eye!!

OOTD: That perfect biker jacket for fall

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

When it comes to fashion and clothes, everyone has their own favorite pieces or ‘categories’ that keep pulling them towards. For some it’s shoes, for some it’s bags or maybe sweaters. For me it’s coats and jeans. I can’t go a new season without a new coat, not even if I try to. I just always find an excuse why I should buy a new one, even if my wallet is telling me no.

Biker styled jackets have been in for a quite long time now and honestly I have had such a huge love and hate relationship with them. First I felt like they were too big for me, then I didn’t like how cropped they were. Now when my eyes caught this perfect piece from Zara all those thoughts were gone, poof. Maybe it was the suede that got me but oh I was in love. The jacket is faux suede with a warm and soft interior lining. Aka perfect for Finnish weather. It is definitely something that everyone needs to add to their wardrobe, it goes with everything simple as that.

Coat – Zara // Trousers – Monki // Shoes – Adidas // Rings – Weekday

And now moving on with the outfit. The jeans, or more like trousers really. I got these beauties from Monki, and yes the texture is corduroy even though the pictures are telling otherwise. I am really happy that cord is officially back in business because come on, it  easily beats denim during this cold season that we are about to enter. They are warm and oh so soft, and isn’t that exactly what this autumn is all about?

It wasn’t hard to choose a shoes to match with this outfit because biker jackets and sneakers are basically meant to be. And since I am obsessed with my Adidas sneakers, I pulled them on without hesitation and I was good to go. Oh and the rings were nice final touch, even though the pictures (again) aren’t doing justice for them.
